Stephen Joe

With nearly two decades of legal experience obtained in both New York and Texas, Stephen is a well-seasoned transactional attorney specializing in advising businesses and investors in a wide range of commercial transactions with a particular focus on the areas of commercial real estate, finance, and corporate formation/joint ventures.  As an honoree in Best Lawyer’s list of the 2025 Best Lawyers in America, Stephen has been recognized particularly for his excellence in the field of Real Estate Law by his clients and peers.

EDUCATION

In addition to graduating as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar at Columbia Law School, Stephen also received his Bachelor of Business Administration (Business Honors and Accounting) and Masters in Professional Accounting from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin and is a CFA Charter holder and CPA Candidate.  With a background in finance and accounting as well as being an investor himself, Stephen’s ability to blend his legal knowledge with his business background allows him to provide his clients with practical solutions that make him an invaluable asset to his clients.

REPRESENTATIVE TRANSACTIONS
  • Representation of a national developer in the $88.5 million financing for the development of a multi-phased project that includes a 396-unit multi-family apartment complex, a 125-unit townhome development and a future single family home development.
  • Representation of a regional developer in the acquisition and financing of an industrial business park that included the acquisition of 7 parcels from 6 different owners constituting over 170 acres of land that will be developed into a retail center and 7 industrial buildings constituting over 1.75 million rentable square feet with mortgage and mezzanine loans in excess of $90 million in the aggregate.
  • Representation of a regional developer in the acquisition, financing and conversion of an existing retail shopping center in into a self-storage warehouse.
  • Representation of a seller in the partial disposition of 400+ acres of raw land for the development of a mixed-use master-planned community.
  • Representation of the equity partner in a $250M+ joint venture to develop a class A+ 11-story office infill development comprised of approximately 325,000 rentable square feet of office space and 23,000 rentable square feet of retail space.
  • Representation of a tenant in the leasing of a 300,000+ sf ground-up, build-to-suit smart factory and warehouse.
